Purchasing An iPhone

Every time I decide to take the plunge and purchase an IPhone I get high anxiety. I have no doubt that iPhones are all that they are made out to be but am I ready to jump off the cliff with the rest of the leaping lemmings?

My real concern is whether I truly want to be any more connected to the internet world then I already am. Already my children herd me out of the house to separate me from my beloved iMac. I guess my romance with nature ended quickly after I returned from my  backpacking trip in the Canyonlands.

When I heard about Shazam I started to gain my momentum to jump off of the cliff. Countless times I have interrupted a conversation in a restaurant mid-sentence to run up to the hostess and beg her to find out the source of the music playing, often returning to the abandoned conversation bereft and unsuccessful.

How about the applications iloseit! or mapmyfitness? I have never been one to count my calories or track my miles but if it is easy to use, than why not try it and lose those final ten pounds?…wait I just shoved ten potato chips in my mouth, does the iPhone give out electrical shocks for bad behavior?

National Geographic radio announced the best travel applications for iPhones and once again my ears pricked up. I am always ridiculously lost and spend many wasted hours searching for previously frequented spots. Brevitt first noticed it when he was three and told me to stop driving in circles. Wade and the kids would be so happy if I had a GPS system attached to my hip.

The application, Urbanspoon, would eliminate my families most dreaded ritual while traveling. They have hidden behind me in embarrassment numerous times as I have painstakingly interviewed every cool looking local on the street to find the most happening restaurant in every town.

It would be appealing to have access to the interent so that I could answer the boy’s never ending complex questions about life. If I did buy the phone would I become addicted to this new world of accessible knowledge? Will I still be able to lay down the law on electronics if I am constantly fiddling with my iPhone?

It is a difficult battle to keep up with the technological rat race. I guess I should stop fighting and go with the flow so that I can stay informed and remain hip to this world that my little boy’s will soon not be able to resist. I’m sure I will be calling Macworld  soon unless somebody can convince me to not take the final leap.

I too am thinking of buying one. The only reason I haven’t is because there is nothing wrong with my phone. With hubs just now getting back to work I can’t justify buying one. Unless I break mine of course.

I have an iPhone and rarely use its applications. After purchasing, I was glued to twitter and facebook updates while waiting in doctor’s office. But now find it a nuisance to log in and prefer to read magazines. So basically, I use it to make and receive phone calls. Oh, and I do like to take pictures. But my old cell phone could do all of that. Though it was not quite as pretty.

I was feeling the pull towards one of the phones for months when we still lived out east. But the problem was solved for me when we returned to Colorado to live in house where we don’t even get cell service, I can hardly rationalize getting a “gadget” that I can’t use most of the time. Honestly I think it is all how you use the piece of technology, I know that I worried that it would further my distance me from the world around me, like the internet does sometimes. Did I really want to be connected to the interworld while was out being in the real one?

Think I may be getting one soon, a reward for looking after the kids all the time, and am looking forward to it. I am sure after the initial few years everything will go back to normal, lol.

Get the damn iPhone! I love mine, anyway. I love Pandora, which I use all the time when I’m in the car or working out. Also, I’m wondering if there’s an application that teaches sex education to pre-pubescent boys.

I’ve been a Mac lover every since I kicked my PC out the back door after I purchased my 1st G4 back in 2000. I’m on my 2nd Mac while my husband is on his fifth PC since then.

So when the iPhone came out, I was naturally glued to the TV foaming all over it every time a commercial came on for the ultimate Techo-gadget. My husband gave me a 1st generation iPhone on my birthday and it was the scream heard around the neighborhood.

To say I didn’t really know what to do with it at first is an understatement. It was like being thrown into a sudden arranged marriage with me and the groom just staring at one another on the living room sofa.

But as time went by, and after I loaded my first apps, I fell so hard in love with my iPhone that I seriously considered divorcing my husband and skipping town with my new-found love.

Even with it’s quirks – like the ever crappy quality of photos from the camera – or the occasional rebooting – I am still in love with my iPhone. It has opened a whole new Techo-world to me that I didn’t know existed.

I broke down and bought one for my husband who is about as computer literate as a cow, and it changed his whole world. After one year, he has actually dabbled in the possibility of making his own app!

I’m considering getting the 3rd gen iPhone, but am afraid of breaking up with my 1st gen iPhone as it has brought me through a lot since we first met.

So as you can see, I promote RUNNING OUT THE DOOR AND BUYING ONE NOW!

Your kids WILL understand once they play a few rounds of “Cooking Mama”, while waiting for their food in a restaurant. AND it will save your sanity more times than you’ll know.
